In May 2024, Charok Lama delivered a heartfelt tribute to Anila Ngawang Samten, sister of the late Thubten Zopa Rinpoche, during a pilgrimage at Lawudo commemorating the first anniversary of Lama Zopa’s passing.
Charok Lama, along with 38 international students, participated in a Lama Chopa puja at Lawudo Gompa on May 3, which also marked Anila’s 83rd birthday.
Charok Lama praised Anila’s unwavering dedication to Lawudo and her brother’s legacy, emphasizing her strength, resilience, and the profound impact she has had on his life and the community.
He highlighted her exceptional commitment, having sacrificed comfort for the preservation of Lawudo, making her a profound teacher in her own right.
Anila’s contributions, rooted deeply in her passion and consistency, are seen as foundational to the flourishing of Dharma activities initiated by Lama Zopa Rinpoche.
Her role, alongside figures like Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa, underscores the significant spiritual heritage of Lawudo, now furthered by Anila and Frances Howland as co-directors of the Lawudo Retreat Centre.
Charok Lama’s recognition of Anila’s lifelong devotion offers a powerful lesson in consistency and dedication for both worldly and spiritual pursuits.
