Description

Manjushri is the Bodhisattva of wisdom and was said to have come from China to Nepal on a pilgrimage. It is believed that when he arrived, the Kathmandu Valley was a large lake.

He then used his flaming sword to cut a gorge that drained the lake, allowing people to inhabit the area. This is also where the Swayambhunath Stupa was constructed, which was built on the spot where the lotus flower settled.
