Insights on Suffering and Cooperation – Pomnyun Sunim’s Vietnam Visit
On July 20, 2024, Pomnyun Sunim concluded his month-long journey across Asia with visits to Quan Su Pagoda and Tay Thien Pagoda.
The day began with an early morning visit to Quan Su Pagoda in Hanoi, the headquarters of Vietnamese Buddhism.
Sunim was welcomed by senior members of the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha Council.
The discussions emphasized enhancing cooperation between Korean and Vietnamese Buddhism, with Sunim expressing strong support for increased exchanges.
Following the visit, Sunim traveled to Tay Thien Pagoda, located in Tam Dao National Park. During his Dharma talk with monks from the Truc Lam Zen monastery, Sunim focused on the nature of suffering, stressing that it arises from mental aversions.
He encouraged letting go of dislikes and cultivating mindfulness as a means to alleviate suffering.
The day ended with a dinner in Hanoi, where Sunim expressed gratitude to the local Jungto Society members who had facilitated his visit.
Afterward, he prepared to return to Korea, concluding his extensive tour of ten Asian countries. Sunim’s journey aimed at fostering greater understanding and collaboration within the Buddhist community across Asia.
