Outstanding Buddhist Women for 2024
The International Women’s Meditation Center Foundation (IWMCF) celebrated International Women’s Day by awarding 31 outstanding Buddhist women for their global contributions.
Initiated by Bhikkhuni Rattanavali from Thailand and Bhikkhuni Dr. Lee from the US, the IWMCF has been honoring women in Buddhism since 2002.
The awards recognize excellence in categories such as Meditative Practice, Social Work, Dharma Propagation, and Peace Activism.
This year’s recipients hail from diverse backgrounds, showcasing a global network of female Buddhist leaders.
Among them are Bhikkhunis, Bhikshunis, Maechees, and laywomen from countries like Thailand, Nepal, Taiwan, and the US.
Their achievements range from advancing meditation practices to advocating for gender equality and social justice.
The IWMCF’s commitment to promoting gender equality in Buddhism is evident through various initiatives, including providing education, meditation, and Dharma teachings for women and girls.
By recognizing the pivotal role of women in Buddhist society, the foundation aims to inspire inclusivity and empower women worldwide.
International Women’s Day serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for women’s rights and gender equality.
With a theme of “Inspire Inclusion” for 2024, the day emphasizes the importance of fostering a more inclusive world for women, resonating with the mission of the IWMCF.
Through collective efforts and recognition, these women continue to pave the way for a more equitable and just society.
