Yogic sciences students visit Rangjung Yeshe Institute in Kathmandu
On Saturday, June 15, 2024, students from Kathmandu University’s Yogic Sciences program visited the KU Centre for Buddhist Studies at Rangjung Yeshe Institute.
They participated in a Dharma lecture given by Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche, who encouraged all attendees to engage in learning, meditation, and taking steps to safeguard our planet, with a particular emphasis on reaching out to the youth.
Chökyi Nyima highlighted the growing popularity of Charvaka materialism, contrasting it with the traditional Buddhist rejection of materialist aims.
He encouraged practitioners to strive for calmness, kindness, and wisdom.
Following the teachings, students discussed their program with RYI Principal Dr. Thomas Doctor and Director of Studies Dr. Julia Stenzel, accompanied by program advisor Dr. Naresh Rimal.
An official invitation was extended to the International Day of Yoga at the Dhulikhel campus on June 21, 2024.
Launched in 2022, Kathmandu University’s Bachelor in Yogic Sciences and Wellbeing is a four-year program with around forty students.
It integrates practical and theoretical yoga studies, including morning yoga practice, and afternoon classes on yoga history and philosophy, Sanskrit, human biology, Buddhist philosophy, and Tibetan yogic practices.
The program includes a service component, with students teaching yoga in high schools throughout the Kathmandu Valley every Friday.
