About Consciousness

Consciousness, at its simplest, is the awareness of internal and external existence. Its nature has been extensively analyzed and debated by philosophers, theologians, and scientists. Definitions vary, sometimes equating it with the mind, and at other times viewing it as an aspect of the mind. Traditionally seen as one's inner life, today it encompasses any cognition, experience, feeling, or perception. Consciousness may involve simple awareness, self-awareness, or awareness of awareness, raising questions about its true nature and scope.
