Medicine Buddha sand mandala – A week of healing and sacred art
During the week of July 21 to July 27, Drepung Loseling Monastery monks will grace our community with a special event centered around the construction of a Medicine Buddha sand mandala. This intricate and sacred art form symbolizes the universe in its divine state and serves as a focal point for meditation and healing practices within Tibetan Buddhism.
The event kicks off with an Opening Ceremony on July 21 at 2 PM, where the monks will consecrate the space and begin creating the mandala using vibrant colored sands. Visitors are encouraged to witness the daily progress of the mandala construction throughout the week, learning about its significance and the Medicine Buddha’s role in alleviating suffering.
The completion and consecration of the mandala on July 27 from 10 AM to 4:30 PM will be marked with special rituals and prayers, invoking blessings for healing and well-being. The week concludes with a Closing Ceremony on July 28 from 2 to 3 PM, during which the mandala will be dismantled to symbolize impermanence, with the sands distributed as blessings to participants.
This event offers educational insights into Tibetan Buddhist culture, opportunities for community participation in ceremonies, and a chance to engage in collective healing intentions through the sacred art of the Medicine Buddha sand mandala.
