Korean Buddhism’s Taego Order
The Bo Kwang Buddhist Temple in Anaheim Hills, California offers an aromatic experience of Chinese, Indian, and Korean incense in the morning air.
Inside, the living room has been transformed into a Buddha hall, with a monk sitting in front of an altar striking a bronze bell and chanting in honor of buddhas and bodhisattvas.
Every Sunday at 11 a.m., participants join in proclamations to seek refuge in the Buddhist sangha and teachings, followed by chanting of the Great Compassion Dharani and Mahakarun dharani.
The hour-long service also includes mantras invoking dharma guardians and bodhisattvas, recitation of the Heart Sutra, a dharma talk, and a final ringing of the dharma bell.
Afterward, the congregation gathers for a Korean Buddhist temple food lunch, the highlight of the day.
