Creating a Memorial Site for San Francisco Zen Center’s Teachers and Shusos

The Green Gulch Farm is constructing a tranquil memorial area where students and the wider can honor their teachers and friends.

The Suzuki Roshi , which was previously located on the hillside above the Green Gulch garden, has been placed in the newly created Memorial Garden at the foot of the hill near the Herb .

The Suzuki Roshi Memorial Garden, situated at the base of a hill behind the Herb Circle in Green Gulch, is a tranquil and beautiful sight. It is visible from the access road to Highway 1 and the entrance gate, emphasizing its significance within the .

Mark Bourne, the head of Windsmith Design, has been in charge of the memorial garden’s design and for over fifteen years at Green Gulch Farm.

Meiya Wender, a tea teacher, encountered Mark when she was searching for someone to design the roji (garden connected to the tea house).

Working together with Meiya, Green Gulch Director Thiemo Blank, and Senior Dharma Teachers Furyu Schroeder and Eijun Linda Cutts, Mark has helped to create and develop the site.
