About Satya Narayan Goenka

Satya Narayana Goenka was a renowned Indian teacher of Vipassanā meditation. He was born in Burma to an Indian business family and moved to India in 1969, where he began teaching meditation. His teachings focused on the fact that the Buddha's path to liberation was non-sectarian, universal, and scientific. He was successful in establishing numerous non-commercial Vipassana meditation centers around the world and was honored with the Padma Bhushan award by the Government of India in 2012 for his distinguished service.
